Dr Elly Philpott, Senior Research Fellow

Elly Philpott


Elly Philpott is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire, a visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and a private business consultant. She has a BSc in Physical Science, a Masters in IT for Manufacture and a PhD in Concurrent Engineering and Design Ethos.

Elly has worked in international supply chain management in the telecommunications sector and with various aerospace and automotive OEMs to improve new product introduction processes. More recently, Elly has been engaged in the support of local SMEs.

Elly is currently working on FP7 project 'Use and Diffuse' which is researching best practice in exploitation and dissemination of research results from EU-funded projects in health and ICT. See www.useanddiffuse.eu

In the last 3 years Elly has managed project funds in excess of £250K and has worked with more than 20 local manufacturing and service companies. Her most recent projects have mapped innovation services provision in the east of England, developed an online innovation tool for SMEs (See http://www.uni-east.ac.uk/innovation-test) and facilitated knowledge exchange for companies in the environmental goods and services sector.

She retains tutoring responsibilities in supply chain management, concurrent engineering and design tools and techniques.

Previous teaching responsibilities have included Quality, Knowledge Management and E-business for Women. Elly has examined 3 PhDs and in excess of 10 Masters theses.

Her current research interests include holistic approaches to business strategy and the implementation of innovation in small companies.

Her home interests include participation in local community groups, learning piano and gardening. Elly lives in Hertfordshire, UK with her husband and 2 children.
