Social workers and social care professionals are on the front line of working with people in need of support or care. Their needs may be physical, mental, emotional or practical. Seldom is there only one need; more commonly a mixture of needs combine to trigger concerns about their own well being or the well-being of those around them. Increasingly social workers report alcohol and other drug problems as part of that mix. In this dissemination event, researchers from the Tilda Goldberg Centre at the University of Bedfordshire will present findings from a large-scale study of social care professionals’ experiences of working with people with alcohol and other drug problems.
This event will be of interest to front-line social work and social care staff as well as managers, at strategic and operational levels. Given the implications for education and training, it will also be of interest to local authority training department leads, social work academics, other social care training providers and local authority research leads.

Attendance is free to local authorities that participated in the survey and members of Making Research Count at the Universities of Bedfordshire and King's College London. For non-members, the cost is £125.
