'Working with Sexually Exploited Children and Young People'

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Professor Jenny Pearce

Practice Development Seminar

  • Tuesday 24 April 2012
  • 10am- 1pm
  • King's College London

Jenny Pearce is Professor of Young People and Public Policy, Institute of Applied Social Research, University of Bedfordshire.

In this seminar she will explore findings from a two year study into Local Safeguarding Children Boards' responses to sexually exploited children and young people. She will propose a model for understanding and working with sexually exploited children arising from findings from research in this area. She will give a critical appraisal of the dual aim for LSCBs to both protect children whilst prosecuting abusers, noting tensions in both policy and practice when employing a child centred and children's rights approach to the development of service delivery. In essence, the seminar aims to consider the interface between political and professional agendas considering questions of consent within child protection.
