Research
While research shows, unsurprisingly, that domestic abuse has a detrimental impact on children, there is limited research exploring how professionals experience supporting these vulnerable children.
Findings from the research presented at this seminar show the complexities surrounding work with children with abusive home backgrounds.
In this seminar, Dr Gemma Ellis will discuss definitions of domestic abuse and provide an outline of current research on the impact on children. The session will then turn to the questions presented above in relation to recent research exploring how teachers experience working with children exposed to domestic abuse. The importance of considering the emotional impact of this complex situation on professionals will be explored and ways forward discussed.
Attendance is free to members of Making Research Count at the University of Bedfordshire and King's College, London. For non-members, the cost is £95 per person.
Places are limited so you will need to book by 26th Oct 2011 - through your agency's Training Department or via email to mrc@beds.ac.uk or by telephoning (01582) 743085.
Conformation of your booking will be sent by email. Joining instructions will be sent one week before the event.
