Research
In this seminar Naomi Smith and Diane Waller will present and discuss their recent pilot studies working with dance movement with people with dementia. The research sought to explore the role of dance movement in maintaining and developing relationships between people with dementia and those who care for and support them.
The findings and experience of the project will be presented within the broader context of creative work with people with dementia and the growing interest in improving the day to day experience of living with dementia through engaging with creative mediums.
Naomi Smith, a Research Fellow at Brighton, has for a number of years researched around care and older people and until recently ran the MRC Program based in Brighton. Diane Waller is Principal Research Fellow at Brighton and Emeritus Professor of Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmith's and Imperial College. In 2007 she was awarded an OBE for Services to Health.
Attendance is free to members of Making Research Count at the University of Bedfordshire and King's College London. For non-members, the cost is £95 per person.
