This has been an exciting and extremely productive year for the IASR. The Government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, recognised our research output to be:
'both internationally recognised and internationally excellent quality, with some evidence of world-leading quality in the areas of youth crime and vulnerable young people. Research income was excellent across the period from a range of charitable, governmental and other sources. Research user involvement, including a staff secondment was good, as were international collaborations and impact on policy and practice'.
Overall, ninety-five percent of our work was recognised to hold national and international recognition, the remaining 5% recognised as holding local excellence.
Over the one year period 2008-2009 we have secured substantial research funding to establish the new Tilda Goldberg Research Centre for Social Work and Social Care; published key texts about young people in gangs and influenced central and local government policy. The development for the new International Centre for the Study of Sexually Exploited and Trafficked Young People has continued, with a major conference planned for 28th June 2010. We have also developed new Post Graduate programmes, including an MA in Applied Public Policy: Children's and Young People's services and a new Professional Doctorate in Leadership of Children's and Young People's Services. The work of the Institute has a powerful influence on Government policy and professional practice with children and young people in need and in trouble.
