How to apply for a research degree

To apply for a research degree, please make sure you fulfill the entry requirements and then complete the online research degree application form and upload your supporting documents.

You should have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or masters degree or equivalent in the relevant subject area.

Biomedicine and nutrition research

Biomedicine and Nutrition Research Group

There are currently four main research themes within the Group:

  • Metal binding to the prion protein, its effect on protein conformation and aggregation, and possible links to CJD and mad cow disease.
  • Molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Interactions of microorganisms and free living amoeba with the blood brain barrier to cause encephalitis and the use of Acanthamoeba aminopeptidases as a target for treatment.
  • Applied proteomics and applied metabolomic techniques in nutritional metabolism research.
