Research

Angel’s research interests include health psychology and health promotion, particularly in children, and eating behaviours.
She also has consultancy experience with the Luton and Dunstable Hospital as a Health Psychologist to Specialist Obesity Services, supporting people who are being treated for morbid obesity.
She has recently run projects on parental influences in children’s health behaviours and connections between dieting, binge eating and weight concerns.
She has a keen interest in positive health psychology, and has recently worked with a University of Bedfordshire student investigating the influence of happiness and personal control on body mass index and health promoting behaviours, which questioned whether happier people, are healthier people.
She is currently working on a proposal to continue research on weight management with a view to producing self-help literature.
Angel is also working on two major pieces of research. One is a collaboration with the Sport and Exercise department at the Bedford campus, testing three kinds of intervention aimed at enhancing children’s physical activity and fitness levels.
In the second piece of research, Angel is working with a PhD student to investigate alcohol awareness in adolescents and to produce a DVD game designed to reduce their intentions to drink alcohol.
