Dr Chris Papadopoulos

Senior Lecturer

chris-papadopoulos130

I began my research career during my undergraduate psychology degree at UCL when I published a study about the differences in mental illness stigma between UK-based white-English and Greek/Greek Cypriot samples.

I then worked as a researcher for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust for several years and was involved in a number of Trust-based research projects, including leading an RCT of a brief psycho-educational intervention for families of patients suffering from their first episode of psychosis, and working on a study examining the prevalence of psychological disorders amongst refugee and migrant schoolchildren.

I completed my PhD in 2008. The study investigated mental illness stigma from a cross-cultural perspective (with a specific focus on the individualism-collectivism paradigm). Concurrently, I published several systematic literature reviews pertaining to tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drug use and their link to mental health in the Greek culture.

Thereafter, I joined the PsychoSocial Cancer Research team based at Kings College London for which I led a systematic review study about of the mental health of mental health practitioners. Thereafter, I joined the Institute of Psychiatry as a Research Fellow on a programme of research examining conflict and containment within psychiatric inpatient acute wards.
