Dr Lesley Baillie

Reader in Healthcare

Lesley Baillie

My professional background is as a nurse in acute care and I have a particular interest in high quality care, especially patient dignity and competence in practice. I completed a doctoral thesis ‘Patient dignity in an acute hospital setting’ in 2007.

My publications include: a student textbook 'Developing Practical Nursing Skills' which was published in its 3rd edition in 2009 and a textbook ‘Dignity in Healthcare: a practical approach’, which was published in 2011. I have published many book chapters and journal articles relating to nursing practice and dignity. I supervise MSc, PhD and Professional Doctorate students’ research and I teach research methods at undergraduate and post-graduate level.

My recent research includes being part of a research team evaluating the Scottish Human Rights Commission’s ‘Care about Rights’ initiative which was a project aimed at  raising awareness about human rights amongst  older people themselves, their relatives and care workers in care homes and care at home organisations.

I am currently part of an academic reference group for the Commission on Improving Dignity in Care of older people in hospitals and care homes’ (a joint initiative of the NHS Confederation, Local Government Group and Age UK).
