Public Culture Group Meets at Putteridge Bury
The next session of the university's PUBLIC CULTURE GROUP will take place on WED. 18th AUGUST 2010. It will feature a presentation from Professor Vincent Platenkamp ... a specialist in Intercultural Studies from The Netherlands ... and two presentations from University of Bedfordshire personnel. Following the merger between the De Montfort University's Bedford campus and the University of Luton to create the University of Bedfordshire in 2006, the University had two tourism research centres.
In 2009 these centres combined to form the new Institute for Tourism Research (INTOUR), bringing together academic practitioners and researchers with international expertise in leisure, tourism and sustainable development.
In the government's previous assessment of higher education research (Research Assessment Exercise 2001) the tourism group received the highest rating awarded in the UK and in the most recent assessment of research (Research Assessment Exercise 2008) the University was deemed to have 'World Leading' research activity in the field of tourism.
