Tourism can create pressures that lead to an overuse of resources and threaten sustainability (Holden, 2006). Hotels are considered a smokeless sector that runs activities similar to that of a household, but on a much larger scale (Kasim, ,2007). In effect, the industry must ameliorate the impacts of tourism on the environment and reduce the consumption of natural resources for sustainable tourism development to be achieved (Mensah, 2007). Research should focus on SMHs as these types of hotels may experience more challenges and barriers to adoption, and it can result in benefits, such as operating cost savings, environmental conservation (Deng & Burnett,2002a; Chan,2010). It is crucial to understand the hotel owner/manager’s attitude toward responsible tourism as the rapid growth of hotels is still accelerating.
To provide a comprehensive analysis of sustainable environmental management practices in small and medium size hotels (SMH’s) in Nong Khai, Thailand.
The proposed methodology of the research study combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. It will be conducted an explanation of the classification of SMH. The data gathered from the questionnaire will be analysed to identify key emergent themes. These themes will subsequently explore through in-depth interviews with SMH owners. Purposive sampling will be conducted on the basis of wanting to interview people who are relevant to the research questions. This approach allows for methodological triangulation utilising different approaches to explain the same variable or theme. It will be employed in the development of measures, resulting in greater confidence in the findings .The qualitative approach is adopted here for an in-depth understanding of hotel businesses in the issue of presentation. Data collection and technique will be summarized and a work plan is also provided.
