Profile
Dr. David López-Pérez
(David moved to King's College London in August 2010)

Personal site www.dlopez.org
He received his Bachelor and Master degrees
in Telecommunication from Miguel Hernandez
University, Elche, Spain in 2003 and 2006, respectively, and he earned his PhD in Wireless Telecommunications from University of Bedfordshire in 2011.
He joined
VODAFONE
SPAIN in 2005, working at the Radio Frequency Department in the
area
of network planning and optimization. He participated in the development
of the
VODAFONE Automatic Frequency Planning tool for GSM and DCS networks.
In 2006, he took up a
research PhD scholarship at the Centre for Adaptive Wireless Systems
(AWS) at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) in Ireland. He worked for a
year on a project called “UbiOne – The Multi-Modal WiFi
Positioning System”. The main goal of the project was to prove
that the major disadvantages of the poor
accuracy of
existing
indoor location systems can be overcome by
fusing two
complementary
location techniques, radio signal strength
indication
(RSSI) and radio signal time of flight (TOF)
with
a unique self-calibrating approach.
In 2007, he was awarded with
a Marie-Curie Fellowship for PhD studies at
the Centre for Wireless Network Design (CWiND) at the
University of Bedforshire (UoB) in UK. My research was supported by the “FP6
Marie Curie RANPLAN-HEC project” (MESTCT-2005-020958). At CWiND, he
also participated in several research projects such as the first
EPSRC-funded research
project on femtocells - “The feasibility
study of WiMAX based femtocells for indoor coverage” (EP/F067364/1).
In 2009, his
paper "OFDMA femtocells: a roadmap on interference avoidance",
(IEEE Communications Magazine, vol. 47, no. 9, pp. 41 - 48, Sept. 2009)
was ranked in
47 of the top 100 documents accessed in
IEEExplore in Oct. 2009. Moreover, in 2010, he co-authored his first book "Femtocells: Technologies and Deployment",
which
provides an in-depth guide on 3G/4G femtocells.
Currently, he is research associate at the King's College of London, working on a project that aims to
develop solutions for inter-cell interference avoidance through OFDMA
downlink resource allocation in networks that has femtocells overlaid
on macrocells.
