Dr Ebenezer Amusa

Profile

Dr Ebenezer Amusa, Research Associate

Ebenezer Amusa

Ebenezer obtained a BSc (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Communication option) at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria – popularly known as “The Great Ife” – in 2000. His final year project was titled “The Design and Construction of a 4-bit Serial Data Transfer for a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) System”.

In 2005 he completed his MSc with distinction in Digital Communication Networks at the London Metropolitan University (formerly known as University of North London) and his dissertation focused on “The investigation and analysis of IDS systems interoperability for securing IEEE 802.11 networks”.

He joined the Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC) in November 2006 as a PhD Research student. His research is focused on "An enhanced Cross-Layer routing protocol for Wireless Mesh Networks based on Received Signal Strength". Ebenezer obtained his PhD from the University of Bedfordshire in March 2011. He is also a member of the Centre for Wireless Network Design (CWiND) working on Mobile and Wireless network design, planning and optimization.

Ebenezer has worked in various top ICT companies in Nigeria as Systems & Network Administrator and was part of the pioneering team to develop and support the first online solutions for the examination bodies in Nigeria (WAEC, JAMB, etc.). He holds Microsoft and Cisco certifications.

He currently sits on the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Council and is also a member of the Younger Members Board sub-committee.

In 2005 he received the IET / Sir Henry Royce award for excellence in recognition of his achievements in establishing a thriving Younger Members Network of the Institution in Nigeria, he received a gold medal, a certificate and a cash prize for this award at the IEE Younger Members Conference in Birmingham UK.

From October 2008 to April 2009, Ebenezer visited the Advanced Network Telecommunication Laboratory at the Politecnico di Milano as a visiting research fellow under the GAWIND Project of Professor Jie Zhang. While he was there, he worked with Professor Antonio Capone and with some of MobiMESH technical team on Link Quality Routing in Wireless Mesh Networks. He also attended few PhD courses with one of them on Optimization and Graph Theory. Around the same time, Professor Ian F. Akyildiz, the Ken Byers Chair Professor in Telecommunications at Georgia Institute of Technology visited the department and he attended his PhD course on Cognitive Radio among other attended PhD courses.

Besides his academic and professional activities, Ebenezer plays the recorder and viola and has played viola for the Nigerian National Orchestra, Music Society of Nigeria (MUSON) orchestra and the Apostolic Faith Church Choir & Orchestra (the largest in Africa). Ebenezer also enjoy travelling and sports, especially football and he supports Arsenal.
