Trevor Corner is Reader in Education and Emeritus Professor of Comparative and International Education.
After school
teaching in London and Edinburgh, my initial postgraduate research was in
European systems of education and equivalences of international qualifications.
Following the growth of international and multicultural research across the UK,
I was instrumental in developing new international master programmes in this
field and published a number of texts (Education in Multicultural Societies/ Croom Helm: The Space Between Words/ Tilburg
Press).
Further work in international Adult Education lead to Learning Opportunities for Adults /Croom Helm and more recently studies in Lifelong Learning in general, and particularly opportunities for mental health users across Europe.
I have taught at several universities in the UK (Edinburgh,
Glasgow, Surrey, Middlesex) and in Europe (Copenhagen) and North America (Ann
Arbor, Victoria) offering courses at masters level for teachers interested in
international developments.
I have worked with a range of learned societies and
served on the board of UK, European and world-wide comparative and
international education societies.
Supervision of doctoral students from a wide
range of national backgrounds has enabled me to deepen my knowledge and
experience of educational practice.
Current interests are changes in international higher education in Europe and Africa, and the education of dispersed minorities in Europe.
