Biomedicine and Nutrition Research Group
There are currently four main research themes within the Group:
- Metal binding to the prion protein, its effect on protein conformation and aggregation, and possible links to CJD and mad cow disease.
- Molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Interactions of microorganisms and free living amoeba with the blood brain barrier to cause encephalitis and the use of Acanthamoeba aminopeptidases as a target for treatment.
- Applied proteomics and applied metabolomic techniques in nutritional metabolism research.
