The University of Bedfordshire has recently been praised for its world- leading research, according to the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).

In the Government report, the University received recognition for its research activity in:

  • Social Work, Social Policy and Administration
  • English  Language and Literature
  • Earth Systems and Environmental Science
  • Sport 
  • Tourism and Leisure

The University has also been  recognised as “internationally excellent” in the areas of Computer  Science and Informatics; and Business and Management Studies.

Also key to the University’s success has been the vital work of   Professors Ivor Gaber, Luke Hockley, Jon Silverman, Garry Whannel and Alexis Weedon and their   teams which has been influencing government policy in communications   policy, media analysis, criminal justice and reporting.

Also highly   praised is the work on Professors David Barrett and John Pitts, Jenny  Pearce and Margaret Melrose and their teams, which is influencing  Government policy and practice in areas such as youth crime and gang  culture, and child trafficking and child protection.
