To apply for a research degree, please make sure you fulfill the entry requirements and then complete the online research degree application form and upload your supporting documents.
You should have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or masters degree or equivalent in the relevant subject area.

The Research Graduate School (RGS) coordinates the quality assurance and administrative arrangements for all students on research degree programmes.

The RGS works closely with Research Institutes to ensure that all students have appropriate support throughout their studies and access to training and development programmes that will complement their research and provide a foundation for their future careers.
The RGS plays an important role in ensuring that the administration, the procedures for ensuring academic progression, the provision of generic training and the operation of the examination process meet the precepts set out in the QAA Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research (revised in September 2004).
The University has scored consistently high ratings in teaching assessments carried out since 1995 by the Quality Assurance Agency.
We work closely with employers and these links with industry are reflected in the research profile of the institution. The University’s research base continues to grow and in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, we were the second most improved university.
