Ivor Gaber, Research Professor in Media and Politics

Ivor Gaber is Research Professor in Media and Politics at the
University of Bedfordshire and Emeritus Professor of Broadcast
Journalism at London University's Goldsmiths College.
He is also a
broadcaster, researcher and consultant. As an independent producer he
makes programmes for Radio 4 and the World Service. His main field of
academic expertise is the field of political communications.
He has
co-authored three books and numerous articles on this topic, and has
served as a media consultant to a variety of organisations, governments
and international bodies including various UK Government departments,
the European Union, the Council of Europe and UNESCO (the United
Nations’ Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).
His journalistic career has included senior editorial positions at the
BBC, ITN, Channel Four and Sky News. He has recently completed
consultancies in Uganda and China.
In Uganda he helped set up the
country's first national news agency for radio stations whilst in China
he has been helping Chinese Government officials understand Western
concepts of freedom of expression and ‘investigative journalism.
He
is Deputy Chair of the Communications Section of the UK UNESCO National Commission and is on the organising committee for World Press Freedom Day.
He is also a Director
of the Voice of the Listener and Viewer and the National Education
Trust.
