Prof Luke Hockley Professor of Media Analysis
Luke Hockley is Professor of Media Analysis in the Research Institute for Media, Art and Design at University of Bedfordshire.
Luke is a founder executive member of the International Association for Jungian Studies and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He has conducted research into the relationship between Post-Jungian psychology and screen-based media including film, television and the internet. He has also published work on the psychological role of mediated imagery in contemporary society. Luke’s current research involves him in developing a comparative approach to working with images; bringing together the perspectives offered by psychotherapy, film and media studies, in order to develop new methods for working clinically and academically. This research provides psychotherapists with an opportunity to engage with film and media academics so that they can develop a fuller understanding of the role that images carry in society.
Luke is the author of Cinematic Projections: The Analytical Psychology of C. G. Jung and Film Theory, 2001 and Frames of Mind: A Post-Jungian Look at Film, Television and Technology, 2007. He is also the co-editor of The Television Industry Book, 2006. He as published numerous articles and chapters and as lectured widely including Australasia, the Americas and across Europe including the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich.
Luke Hockley was previously Associate Dean of Media at the University of Sunderland and prior to that he was Head of Media Arts at the University of Luton. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
