CVs and Applications

An effective CV or job application is one that gets you an interview.


On a first pass employer will typically be looking for a reason to reject you. Typical reasons include:

  • Poor spelling and grammar
  • Unprofessional presentation
  • Content lacks relevance to the role applied for
  • Ability not adequately evidenced

Remember

  • Each job is different, so every application that you make should be different.
  • Make sure you know what the employer is looking for.
  • Read the person specification and evidence your ability in your application.
  • You will only be interviewed if the employer thinks that you meet the person specification.
