Top 5 Tips:

The full picture is a pretty diverse one; the main divisions in social work are between statutory and other employers e.g. private or voluntary.
It can be helpful when considering this course to speak to someone who is working in the role. Here are some suggestions for meeting a Social Worker currently in practice:

  1. Contact employers to see if they have open days - Learning and Development might be a good point of initial contact with Local Authorities/Councils.
  2. Check employers and General Social Care Council web pages for details of events that Social Workers are likely to attend e.g. recruitment fairs but also conferences (sometimes free).
  3. Look at the General Social Care Council website, in any event, for information about careers.
  4. Look at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) website, there are a massive range of good quality resources to help develop understanding.
  5. Ring up a local team and just see if a Social Worker was prepared to spare a little bit of time.
