- About Us

Approximately 25% of our student population are
international, and our International Students’ Support Team ensures that each
overseas student is well cared for during their time with us.
Whether the Student Support Team is needed to provide practical help or is just simply needed for advice, they are always on hand to solve any issues that you may be facing, such as:
If your course is longer than six months then you may be
able to work up to 20 hours during the week. In addition, you may be able to
work as many hours as you like during university vacations.
Our Support team will be able to help you get a temporary National Insurance number and will also help to find out if you are able to work in the UK whilst you study.

We offer a series of English Language Support Modules which are designed to improve the speed and accuracy of your written and spoken English. The modules also equip you with exam techniques.
If your course is longer than six months then you will be able to receive NHS (National Health Service) care from local doctors. Our Support Team is able to help you register with a Doctor at the Student Health Centre.
It is important that you have access to a bank account during your time in the UK to keep money safe and to make payments of your rent and bills easier. The Support Team will help you through the process of opening a bank account.

Before coming to the UK it is advised that you take out travel insurance which covers your journey and belongings. Once in the UK, the Support Team will inform you about taking out insurance in the UK and they will also be able to advise you about personal safety.
The University is home to 16,000 students from more than 140 different countries, and therefore religious beliefs are well represented within the community. If you need help finding a place of worship or whether you want to meet people from the same denomination of faith as you, the Chaplaincy or Support Team will be able to help you.
Social events are a great way to meet other international students. Many events are held during your first few weeks to help you settle in, meet new people, and see your surroundings. But if you’re after advise on things to see and place to go then look no further than the Student Support Team.
