Jason Falconer

I felt I wasn’t achieving my potential at work and knew I had more to offer, so I decided to apply to University.

As a mature student returning to education I wondered how I would fit in with the younger students, but it wasn’t a problem - there were many other mature students at the University too.

After having worked for some time I was concerned about supporting myself. Staff advised me to apply to the Access to Learning fund, which helped enormously. Talking to other mature students helped too, as many were in the same position.

As I hadn’t studied for a while I was worried I wouldn’t have the ability to keep up with the level of work, but there was flexibility in the programme and tutors were always available to discuss assignments.

Studying at the University of Bedfordshire was a positive experience, and
having now completed my degree, I am happily employed by a sustainable transport charity, working on cycling projects in schools.
