- About Us
The University was highly rated in the country for midwifery and nursing and of the three interviews I attended for midwifery courses, the team at Bedford came across as the most enthusiastic and friendly. They brought midwifery to life!
I particularly liked that there are theory and practice sessions within a week rather than in blocks enabling you to put into practice what is taught in lectures.
Also, as a mother, another benefit is that lectures start at 10.00am giving me time to get my children to school before class.
The role of a midwife is to be a carer, counsellor, clinician, communicator and educator. This course enabled me to learn important skills by providing a good balance between theory and practice. At the same time I was supported by both practice mentors and lecturers throughout the course.
The teaching quality is high and the lecturers are really supportive.
Working in the community was a really good experience as I developed a close relationship with my mentor over the three years and I really got to know the women I cared for from the beginning of pregnancy through to the postnatal period. It’s a real privilege to be the first person to see and touch a new-born baby and share that joy with parents.
University gave me the opportunity to meet new people and form close friendships.
Attend the open day before you apply and meet the lecturers for the course. Try organise a tour of your preferred hospital site as this will help you to make your final decision.
