If you are starting university this September and are paying Tuition Fees of £3,290 you will be eligible for a University of Bedfordshire Bursary from £329 up to £858 per annum.
As it is means -tested, exactly how much you get will depend on your financial circumstances (or that of your family if you are a Dependent student).
The Student Loans Company has been given responsibility for processing Bursary applications including means testing, administering and distributing the Bursaries annually.
When you applied to your Local Authority for the financial support package available (i.e. the Tuition Fee loan, Maintenance Grant and Student Loan for living costs), you would have been asked to sign the form allowing the Student Loans Company permission to access your financial details.
This is so that they can assess the level of Bursary you are entitled to based on the financial details you (and your parents) supplied to your Local Authority.
Whilst this system has been subjected to rigorous testing, it is possible that some students may experience delays or problems in receiving their Bursary entitlement. If this should be the case for you, please contact the Student Finance Unit (SFU) who will give you advice and guidance on how to progress with your application.
If you are likely to experience financial hardship because of this delay, the SFU will be able to consider alternative options to help ‘keep you going’ until your Bursary has been sorted out.
There are two types of student loan which you are entitled to apply for. If you are a new system student (UK or EU) paying £3,290 pa for your tuition fees you will be entitled to a non-means tested student loan of £3,290 to cover this cost.
You are not obliged to take out this loan but if you haven’t, the University will want to know how you are paying your tuition fees.
Any student loan taken out for tuition fees will be paid direct to the University.
Here at the University of Bedfordshire we have been rated as the best university for financial support in the south of England, according to the Guardian 2008 and the Office for Fair Access 2009, which means that you can benefit from lots of fantastic free cash, whilst studying with us.
With our University of Bedfordshire bursary you can receive up to £858 of free cash, and at the least, you could receive £329 every year, during your studies. Read below to find out how you can get you hands on this free cash.
If you are a full-time UK or EU undergraduate student, paying the full tuition fee of £3,290, then you will be eligible for this bursary once you register on your course at the University.
If you are a UK or EU student and have registered on a full-time undergraduate course at the University, and have taken out the full tuition fees loan, you should
receive this free cash automatically once you have registered on your course.
However, If you are not claiming a tuition fees loan from the Student Loans Company, your bursary will be handled by the University. The administration will be managed by the Student Money Advice Team studentmoney@beds.ac.uk who is based in the Luton Campus Centre.
Once your bursary is approved the money will be paid directly in to your bank account, in three equal instalments:
