Frequently asked questions about studying at the University of Bedfordshire

How many units can I study per semester?

You may take up to four course units per semester (60 University of Bedfordshire credits or 30 ECTs credits).

Where can I find information on units, timetables, etc.?

You can find descriptions of individual course modules in the online modular handbook and the online timetable gives details about when and where modules are taught and tutors' names.

Will all my credits gained at the University of Bedfordshire transfer back to my home university?

You should discuss this with your Exchange Co-ordinator at your home university.

Do I need a visa?

Check with your Exchanges Officer or the British Embassy web page for your country if you will need to obtain a visa. You can also check www.ukvisas.gov.uk for more information on visas.

Can I work part-time during my stay in the UK?

  • EU students - Yes, you can and it is relatively easy to find a job in Luton. The Job Shop at Student Services will help you find a suitable job.
  • Non-EU students wishing to work need to have a student visa when entering the UK. If you are processed as a student, you will be entitled to work up to 20 hours a week during term time. For more information check www.ukcisa.org.uk

Does the University run any orientation programmes for exchange students?

Yes. All exchange students are invited to participate in a one-week orientation programme before the semester starts. It is important that you attend as there will be a lot of valuable information (academic and non-academic) available. It is also a unique opportunity to meet the other exchange students.
