Sports and leisure in Bedford

Athletics track

Bedford is home to an array of British sporting talent. Paula Radcliffe, the UK's top female long-distance runner is based at the Bedford and County Athletics Club, and Matt Skelton, the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Boxer is also a Bedford resident.

It’s also home to Tim Foster, who won Gold in the coxless fours in the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the Santa Pod stages world champion drag meetings.

Bedford Athletics Stadium

Originally known as Newnham Stadium, the Bedford Athletics Stadium boasts a range of facilities including an international standard eight-lane floodlit track, athletics fields, a weights room and two rugby pitches, one of which is floodlit. Football, athletics and a range of general fitness sessions are also held at the stadium.

Priory Marina

Set in the 250 acre Priory Country Park, the Priory Marina provides canoeing lessons, boat hire, sailing, as well as cycle hire, a nature reserve and riverside walks.

Other water sports can be enjoyed at Bedford Rowing Club on the River Great Ouse.

LA Fitness

Bedford’s hi-tech gym offers the latest in resistance and cardio gym equipment, as well as a comprehensive range of classes from Yoga and Pilates through to the latest Body Pump and Spinning.

LA Fitness also offers swimming pools and relaxation areas with spas, sun beds, saunas and steam rooms.

Robinson Pool

Bedfordshire’s premier swimming facility offers a six-lane competition pool, a diving pool, a scuba diving club, as well as an aerobics exercise studio and a fitness suite with personal trainers.

The Oasis Beach Pool, offers a variety of spa pools, water flumes, a wave machine and an outdoor pool.

Bedford Blues Rugby Club

With seating for 7,000, the Bedford Rugby Club, which is currently playing in the National Division One, provides a great day out for all rugby lovers.
