The
use of substances by people with disabilities has been overlooked in
research, policy and practice.
Research tells us that people with
physical and learning disabilities as well as those experiencing mental
distress do use substances and do so for a variety of reasons.
Their
use may reduce physical or psychological pain or relieve other
distressing symptoms.
This section explores the evidence base and
practice issues facing people experiencing mental distress, and those
living with learning and physical disabilities who use substances and
experience problems.
