Prospects Postgraduate Awards 2014


The University of Bedfordshire were awarded Best Faculty Campaign at the 2014 Prospects Postgraduate Awards. Bedfordshire's entry for Postgraduate Sports beat faculties from the University of Cambridge, Brunel University and the University of Sunderland to win the award. The ceremony took place at the Midland hotel, Manchester.

Heist Awards 2013

Bedfordshire's Marketing team, led by Sarah Hampton, Marketing Manager claimed gold in two categories at the CIPR PRide (Anglia, Thames and Chiltern) Awards. The department won Best Use of Research, Planning, Measurement and Evaluation, as well as Best Publication for their 2015 Undergraduate Prospectus.

The ceremony was held at the Cambridge City hotel in the heart of the city and all attendees had a brilliant night out sweeping the board and then carting the trophies home on the train!

National UK Blog Awards 2014

Blog awardsDigital Marketing Manager, Paul Fryer, gained national recognition at the inaugural UK Blog Awards in London for his Digital Marketing Team blog. Created to recognise the uptake of blogging across a variety of 12 UK industries, more than 16,000 votes were cast on over 1,000 applicants for 25 UK Blog Awards categories.

With the education category then whittled down to a shortlist of 10 nominations, a judging panel formed of two charities supporting teachers and education professionals in the work place announced Paul as the winner.

Queen's Anniversary Prize for Research 2013

queens prizeThe University of Bedfordshire has won the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for its pioneering research into child sexual exploitation.

The prestigious prize is the highest form of national recognition open to higher and further education institutions in the UK and the award enhances the University's widely-acknowledged reputation for its work in raising awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE).

Prospects Postgraduate Awards 2013


These awards, held at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester, honoured the best universities and businesses who are supporting postgraduate education across the UK.

With more than 150 postgraduate educational organisations in attendance, Bedfordshire's Digital Marketing Team fought off strong competition to triumph in the Best Website category. Sociology professor and broadcaster Laurie Taylor presented the award and the judging panel included the National Union of Students (NUS) and the British Council.

These awards celebrate innovative work in the public sector and this year were held at Sopwell House in St. Albans.

The University of Bedfordshire was shortlisted in three categories:  'Best use of Digital', 'Best External Publication' and 'Best Use of Social Media'. We took home silver for 'Best use of Digital' and two GOLDS for Best External Publication and Best Use of Social Media - plus a special GOLD award (for which we were not nominated) for 'Best use of Research, Planning and Evaluation'. A brilliant night was had by all!

Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service's (AGCAS) 2013

AGCAS awardOur Careers and Recruitment Services department picked up the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service's (AGCAS) 'Student and Graduate Employability Award' at the AGCAS Biennial conference in Exeter.

The project, which was run in association with Jobcentre Plus, saw 102 local unemployed graduates – who studied at 68 different universities around the country – finding work through a scheme which featured one-to-one support, mentoring and training.

The Heist Awards  this year was held in Manchester with the theme of 'A Night at the Movies'.

The University of Bedfordshire was shortlisted in four categories: Best Postgraduate Prospectus, Best use of Digital/Social Media, Best Website and Best Internal Communications Campaign. We took home silver for 'Best Website' and Bronze for 'Best Internal Communications Campaign' - not bad at all for a night's work!

CIPR Local Public Services Awards 2013

CIPR winners Sarah Hampton, Lauren Hague, Caroline Jacobi, Paul Fryer and Hannah ParkThe University of Bedfordshire picked up both a win and a 'Highly Commended' in two separate categories. The win was for our Postgraduate newsletter e-life in the 'PR on a shoestring' category. We were also runner up for our Digital Clearing Campaign in the 'Digital Excellence' category.

These awards celebrate excellence, representing communications professionals working in public services.

Heist Awards 2012This year, the Heist Awards celebrated excellence in education marketing with a jubilee themed event at the Queens hotel in Leeds.

The University of Bedfordshire was successful in winning a Silver Award for 'Best internal Communication Campaign' at the ceremony. This was for our 'Just a Minute: Library Videos' which have been a great success with our current students, helping them engage with the wide range of services on offer.

The University of Bedfordshire has been awarded the Web Marketing Association's 'Standard of Excellence' award for The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and development of the best websites on the World Wide Web. The University received a score of 56 out of 70 (80%) putting us at a level higher than the industry standard.

Students' Union Evaluation Initiative

The UBSU scooped a bronze SUEi award which demonstrates its continued commitment to improving the service it provides to students. The award allows Students' Unions to benchmark themselves against each other and share best practice. UBSU has been audited over the last two years. Results showed that UBSU has been improving since the audit began and that its communications with students is excellent. It is now aiming to be the first 'small' Students' Union in the country to receive a silver.

The Athena SWAN Charter (launched in June 2005) is a scheme which recognises and celebrates good employment practice for women working in science, engineering and technology (SET) in higher education and research.

The University of Bedfordshire is committed to the advancement of the careers of women in SET and we were awarded with an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in July 2008 in recognition of our achievements following successful submission of collection and analysis of key data and development of action plans on gender equality in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) disciplines.

This year, the Heist Awards celebrated excellence in education marketing at London's popular attraction - Madame Tussauds.

The University of Bedfordshire was successful in winning a Bronze Award for Best Website at the ceremony. And it doesn't end there.

The University was also a winner in the category of Best Local and Regional Student Recruitment Campaign, for our 2007 clearing marketing campaign, which was awarded a Bronze.

Award winning careers service

The Careers Service at the University of Bedfordshire is a member of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) and has gained accreditation from the Guidance Council for the delivery of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services to national quality standards.

MBE Honour for University 2008

The Queen awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List to Arti Kumar at the University of Bedfordshire in recognition of her services to higher education.

The Associate Director of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) has become a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for her new approaches to the career and personal development of students.

National Excellence Award 2008

CWE Prowess Award

The Centre for Women's Enterprise (CWE) won a national award from one of the UK's largest network organisations for businesswomen.

The Centre received the Prowess Flagship Award for Best Practice and Excellence in Women's Enterprise Development, for outstanding services delivered to women in the East of England looking to start or grow their own business and develop their skills.

Runner-up for University of the Year 2007

The University of Bedfordshire was recently named Runner-up for the prestigious title of University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Supplement awards.

Bedfordshire was short listed for the coveted crown alongside the universities of Derby, Edge Hill, Essex, Exeter, and Glamorgan.

It follows the University having the largest rise in applications in the UK. 

CIPR Awards 2007

The annual CIPR Pride awards, which take place in 11 regions around the UK, recognise public relations success and achievement in the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Reaching the final shortlist for the annual CIPR awards is proof that the university's work has been judged to be amongst the best in the UK, and at the ceremony, the University took home the silver award for Best Website and a silver award for Best Publication (Undergraduate prospectus).

National Teaching Award 2007

A lecturer from the University of Bedfordshire was awarded a prestigious national teaching award worth £10,000 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to teaching and learning in the higher education sector.

Dr Pat Jefferies, Head of Learning and Teaching at the Bedford campus, was chosen from hundreds of nominations by the Higher Education Academy to be awarded the National Teaching Fellowship.

National Business Award 2007

The Centre for Women's Enterprise (CWE) at the University of Bedfordshire won a prestigious national award for its innovative leadership and business growth services for women across England.

The CWE was presented with the Lloyds TSB sponsored Prowess 'Innovator Award', at the Prowess Awards ceremony, where Erika Watson, Chief Executive of Prowess, commended the team for the extraordinary impact their services are having on women's lives and work.

International award 2006

James Crabbe with award

A scuba-diving university Professor has won a top international award to help him continue his research into climate change by studying the world's coral reefs.

Professor James Crabbe, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS) at the University of Bedfordshire, won the AVIVA/Earthwatch Award for Climate Change Research.
