Professional Teaching Scheme

The Professional Teaching Scheme (PTS) is the main support for development in teaching and learning offered by the Centre for Learning Excellence.

The main purpose of the PTS is to support academics in developing their teaching skills, knowledge and confidence. The PTS also enables academics to gain HEA recognition through either the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCertTHE) or the Experiential Portfolio Route (EPR)

The PTS provides a flexible, supportive framework for professional development and is based on the following principles:

  • The learner experience is a key part of the student experience
  • All academic staff have a key role in the learner experience
  • A balance between recognition for the REF and HEA and recognising the value of excellent teaching at University of Bedfordshire
  • Providing timely, accessible, relevant and useful development opportunities
  • Providing a flexible framework that recognises accredited, non-accredited, formal and non-formal development
  • Building and supporting a professional community of practice which recognises, supports and disseminates effective practice
  • Alignment to the UKPSF (UK Professional Standards Framework)
