You’ve probably accessed the team from the Study Hub at some point during your studies, to help improve your academic study skills. As a final year student the team are still there to assist you and help you succeed. So, don’t forget to use the support offered by the teams of specialists: Academic Liaison Librarians, Computer Skills Trainers and Professional and Academic Development (PAD) Tutors, especially when embarking on final year projects or dissertations. It’s never too late to hone your academic skills.

Self Help Guides

The Study Hub also has a plethora of self-help guides to assist you. You can access these 24/7 online. These cover key areas for success such as library resources, referencing, researching, academic writing, maths, study skills and how to optimise your use of Microsoft Office products.

Studiosity

Studiosity connects students with a team of writing specialists who are here to help you with writing and core skills - anytime, anywhere. Studiosity provides you with two online services: Writing Feedback and Connect Live.

Their Writing Feedback gives feedback on referencing, choice of language, structure and spelling/grammar within 24 hours. If you are not sure how to use the feedback to enhance your work before making a final submission, you can arrange to discuss this with a Study Hub tutor. Connect Live also offers live support in areas such as basic English, maths and stats, science and generic study skills.

Both services are available 24/7, 365 days of the year, and you can access them for FREE via BREO (Blackboard).

Meet with an advisor to talk through issues linked to academic study

The Student Engagement Team provide general advice and support to students on a wide range of issues that might be impacting on your attendance and ability to submit work and progress in your studies. We will work with you to support you to remain engaged and succeeding on your course. As a final year, we know you are juggling even more than usual in these unprecedented times.

Subject Guides

Did you know that your Academic Liaison Librarian has compiled subject guides for you to utilise, which is especially helpful as final year student working on a dissertation or final project?

The guides are a comprehensive overview of the best resources for your subject area and identify the recommended resources in the library collections and on the web to use in your assignments, seminar tasks or presentations

The Library is committed to ensuring we support you to access texts you may need for you final year project or dissertation. If you can't find what you're looking for from either the Library Catalogue or DISCOVER you may still be able to get hold of the item from another library through the Document Supply Service.

Access to specialist software and downloads

The University provides free access to a range of software that you can download on to your personal computer at home and keep!

As a final year, access to this software could be invaluable, so do make sure you take advantage of this offer and download Microsoft office, SPSS and anti-virus software.

If you’re studying an Education course in Bedford, don’t forget to utilise the specialist Education software, which is available on PCs located on the third floor of the library and in the Learning Hub.

Laptop loans

As a final year student you can apply to borrow a University laptop if you have restricted access to IT facilities at home, or have to isolate due to Covid-19.
