We are very pleased to confirm our plans to hold virtual graduation celebrations and in-person graduations when it is safe to do for the Class of 2020.
We want to give you the chance to celebrate your achievement safely, with friends, family, faculty, and of course, your fellow graduands.
We will hold virtual graduation ceremonies from 2 to 5 September 2020!
We're sending you an email with a link to a form to give you to the opportunity to tell us if you would like to attend the virtual graduation, the in-person graduation, or both.
If you chose to join us for the the virtual graduation, we'll send an invitation after awards have been confirmed, with a link to register your attendance at a virtual ceremony.
We will keep you updated about when we will be able to hold in person ceremonies.
If you don't want to join in the virtual ceremonies, we will still contact you to confirm the address where you want us to send your certificate.
We'll send you details of what to do next depending on your answers. You'll be allocated to a ceremony with others from your course.
Please note that we will ask you to respond within a tight deadline.
We know many of you would like to get together to celebrate in person, and we will be planning an event for you all next year at a time when it is safe to do so.
Students will be invited by email to book through evision.
You’ll be allocated to a ceremony date and time and notified of other actions to take in order to access the ceremony on the day.
You will join a Zoom room with other graduands on your course, to give you the opportunity to celebrate with your peers.
The ceremony will follow a similar format as our usual face to face ceremony. Some speeches will be recorded and some will be live, and you can expect your name to be read out live.
You to be visible to everyone on screen at that point, to acknowledge your achievement.
All ceremonies will be accessible via web streaming from our usual site: www.beds.ac.uk/graduationslive
The event will be recorded to view later.
Staff and students ‘attending’ will be asked to wear smart dress but academic dress will not be required.
If you do want to order a gown, our gown supplier has put on an offer for the Class of 2020 to have the complete outfit sent to a UK address and 50% off the next hire.
To get the gown for your virtual celebration you'll need to order by 21 August. We'll let you know when the site is available to book.
See 'Can i have photographs taken in my gown?'

Yes. We encourage you to get your friends and family involved. The event will be streamed live so they can all watch it too, and it will also be recorded for you to keep afterwards.
We will be asking you and your friends and family to post messages and photos on Twitter and Instagram as well. The events will be streamed live and can be accessed here:
The virtual graduation ceremonies will be streamed live available to family and friends to view, and students will be invited to join in via Zoom.
Zoom is free software which is accessible via the web, or can be downloaded via the app store zoom.us
You won't need to download or have a sign-in, just access the link that will be sent to you nearer the event through a web browser.
The zoom link is for students only; family and friends will view from the 'outside' using the web links on www.beds.ac.uk/graduationslive which only requires internet access through a web browser.
You can expect to receive your transcript from us once your award has been confirmed. Certificates will follow separately after the virtual ceremonies in September.
The current pandemic has meant that we have had to put a number of measures in place to support our students during this time of great uncertainty. Part of those measures have included ensuring that we apply appropriate mitigation to assist students in completing their assessments over the summer months. We therefore adjusted our graduation dates to ensure all students eligible for an award, would have the opportunity to attend a virtual graduation ceremony.
Unfortunately we can’t give you an exact date right now as to when we will be able to invite you to a face to face celebration. This is because we don’t know when the restrictions on gatherings and the current guidance on safety measures will enable us to do so. However, as soon as it is safe for us to arrange a face to face celebration, we will contact you so you have the opportunity to attend.
Yes. We are sending a form out to all students that might be eligible for an award to ask you which event you would like to attend
The virtual ceremony will not replace your face to face ceremony. All graduands that are part of the Class of 2020 will be invited to a face to face celebration once it is safe to do so, regardless of whether you attended the virtual graduation ceremony. You can indicate this on the form you receive from us.
This means that if you would prefer not to attend the virtual graduation, and would like to come along to a ceremony when it is safe to do so instead, you can indicate this on the form.
We are sorry that the University of Bedfordshire had to postpone the Spring and Summer graduation ceremonies as a result of the worldwide health situation.
We truly regret the inconvenience caused but, after careful consideration, we felt it was important to minimise the risk to our students and their guests. Our student community, along with friends and family, come from over all over the world.
The University took the difficult decision to postpone the graduation ceremony due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. We felt that although this was no doubt disappointing for many graduands, the University had to prioritise the health and wellbeing of graduands and their guests.
An external supplier, Ede & Ravenscroft, provides the gowning and photography for graduation. If you haven't done so yet, you should contact this supplier directly to request a refund for your gown and/or photography for April.
Make sure to have your booking reference number when you make contact. You may find www.gownhire.co.uk helpful in this regard.
All students who were scheduled to attend April graduations have their certificate mailed to the address they registered when booking to attend. If you have not had your certificate please email email@example.com Certificates are sent by signed for delivery.
For students studying with our overseas partners, your certificates will be delivered to your college and you can arrange collection locally.
While we are still off campus we are not able to print your certificates, but we are working on a solution.
We know many of you would like to get together to celebrate in person. If you are unable to attend a virtual ceremony, we will be planning an event for you all next year at a time when it safe to do so.
