We are very pleased to confirm our plans to hold virtual graduation celebrations for Summer 2021.
We want to give you the chance to celebrate your achievement safely, with friends, family, faculty, and of course, your fellow graduands.
Save the date!
We will hold virtual graduation ceremonies on 22 - 23 July 2021.
Invitation emails will be sent to all eligible students shortly.
What can I expect from the virtual graduation ceremony
Students will be invited by email to book attendance at the ceremony through evision.
You’ll be allocated to a ceremony date and time and notified of other actions to take in order to access the ceremony on the day.
You will join a Zoom room with other graduands on your course, to give you the opportunity to celebrate with your peers.
Zoom is the most widely available software and requires low bandwidth.
Events are managed as private meetings and students are advised on how to maximise their experience through prior registration.
The ceremony will follow a similar format as our usual face to face ceremony. Some speeches will be recorded and some will be live, and you can expect your name to be read out live.
You need to be visible to everyone on screen at that point, to acknowledge your achievement.
All ceremonies will be accessible via web streaming at www.beds.ac.uk/graduationslive
The event will be recorded to view later.
Do we need to wear academic dress?
Staff and students ‘attending’ will be asked to wear smart dress but academic dress will not be required.
If you do want to order a gown, our gown supplier has put on an offer for the Class of 2021 to have the complete outfit sent to a UK address and 50% off the next hire.
To get the gown for your virtual celebration you'll need to order by at least two weeks before the events. We'll let you know when the site is available to book.
Order your gown at graduation-services.edeandravenscroft.com/graduation
Can I have photographs taken in my gown?
We are not able to offer face to face official photographs yet. We hope to do so in the future!
You can hire your gown direct from our Gown suppliers, Ede & Ravenscroft. To get the gown for your virtual celebration you'll need to order by at least two weeks before the events. We'll let you know when the site is available to book.
- 1. Select your institution, ceremony date and award level
- 2. Use the academic dress wizard from the graduation hub page to add the correct dress to your basket
- 3. Proceed to the checkout
Who else will be attending the virtual graduation ceremony?
You can expect Faculty staff to be live in attendance to congratulate you on your achievements.
Can my friends and family join in?
Yes. We encourage you to get your friends and family involved. The event will be streamed live so they can all watch it too, and it will also be recorded for you to keep afterwards.
We will be asking you and your friends and family to post messages and photos on Twitter and Instagram as well.
The events will be streamed live at www.beds.ac.uk/graduationslive
What software will I need to join the virtual graduation ceremonies?
The virtual graduation ceremonies will be streamed live available to family and friends to view, and students will be invited to join in via Zoom.
Zoom is free software which is accessible via the web, or can be downloaded via the app store zoom.us
You won't need to download or have a sign-in, just access the link that will be sent to you nearer the event through a web browser.
The zoom link is for students only; family and friends will view from the 'outside' using the web links on www.beds.ac.uk/graduationslive which only requires internet access through a web browser.
What about transcripts and certificates?
You can expect to receive your transcript from us once your award has been confirmed. Certificates will follow separately after the virtual ceremonies have taken place.
Why are we holding virtual graduations?
The current pandemic has meant that we have had to put a number of measures in place to support our students during this time of great uncertainty.
When will there be a face to face celebration?
Unfortunately we can’t give you an exact date right now as to when we will be able to invite you to a face to face celebration.
This is because we don’t know when the restrictions on gatherings and the current guidance on safety measures will enable us to do so.
However, as soon as it is safe for us to arrange a face to face celebration, we will contact you so you have the opportunity to attend.
Can I attend the virtual ceremony and still come to the face to face celebration as well?
Yes. The virtual ceremony will not replace your face to face ceremony. All graduands will be invited to a face to face celebration once it is safe to do so, regardless of whether you attended the virtual graduation ceremony.
Update your contact details on the evision graduation booking and we will use this data to stay in touch with you.
We are sorry that the University of Bedfordshire has had to postpone the Summer graduation ceremonies as a result of the worldwide health situation.
We truly regret the inconvenience caused but, after careful consideration, we felt it was important to minimise the risk to our students and their guests. Our student community, along with friends and family, come from all over the world.
Why were the graduation ceremonies postponed?
The University took the difficult decision to postpone the graduation ceremony due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. We felt that although this was no doubt disappointing for many graduands, the University had to prioritise the health and wellbeing of graduands and their guests.
What about my gown hire?
An external supplier, Ede & Ravenscroft, provides the gowning and photography for graduation. If you haven't done so yet, you should contact this supplier directly to request a refund for your gown and/or photography for April.
Make sure to have your booking reference number when you make contact. You may find www.gownhire.co.uk helpful in this regard.
How will I get my certificate?
All students who were scheduled to attend April graduations have their certificate mailed to the address they registered when booking to attend. If you have not had your certificate please email email@example.com Certificates are sent by signed for delivery.
For students studying with our overseas partners, your certificates will be delivered to your college and you can arrange collection locally.
While we are still off campus we are not able to print your certificates, but we are working on a solution.
Can I still defer my graduation until a later date?
We know many of you would like to get together to celebrate in person. If you are unable to attend a virtual ceremony, we will be planning an event for you all next year at a time when it safe to do so.
