Media and Journalism
Our degrees with a Foundation year provides a supportive way for you to work towards a degree level qualification.
In the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree.
There is a special Foundation Year Bursary of £500 available to UK students starting September 2017.
Passing the Foundation Year will give you guaranteed entry to an Undergraduate course. More details here

About the course
The course has been designed to develop your skills and to prepare you for entry onto the first year of your chosen course.
It provides a balance between content related to your chosen subject and the range of wider skills required for undergraduate study.
This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will be required to pass the foundation year in order to progress to the first year of your chosen degree.

This course is ideal for those who do not meet our standard entry requirements or those with a non-standard educational background.
It will allow you to graduate with a full undergraduate degree in your chosen subject in four years.
Entry requirements
You must have achieved at least one A level or equivalent (level 3) qualification, or substantial relevant work experience.
Language requirements
The University accepts an IELTS overall score of 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each element. For students who do not meet the English language criteria the Foundation Year will include formal English language units as part of your study.
What will I learn?
During your Foundation Year you will study a range of subjects designed to prepare you for the final three years of your undergraduate degree course.
- Studying for HE (including current affairs and data analysis)
- Two subject-specific units
- Additional English (if required) either as a formal unit or as additional guided learning through our Study Hub
- Integrated project that brings together all aspects of your Foundation Year and provides you with a chance to work on an independent piece of work.
What next?
After successfully completing the Foundation Year you can progress onto the first year of your Bachelor's degree.
