Accelerated first year undergraduate degrees, joining year two in September 2018 and Degrees with Foundation Year, enabling you to start year one in September 2018.

About the course

The fast-growing travel and tourism industry offers plenty of scope for exciting careers in airlines, hospitality, conference and business travel and destination management, and this course allows you to structure your study – gearing it towards the sections of the industry that most appeal to you.

Gain insights into the industry and the underlying business and management disciplines needed to be a successful manager, then focus on strategic management and choose your specialism from areas like air transport management, sustainable tourism, heritage, mega sports or business events, gaining a highly employable blend of academic theory and real business practice.

Travel and Tourism with Foundation Year - BA (Hons)

  • Our degrees with a Foundation year provides a supportive way for you to work towards a degree level qualification.

    In the Foundation year you will study three days per week. The focus will be on academic writing skills and numeracy, plus subject-specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree.

    There is a £500 Foundation Year Bursary available to UK students starting September 2017.

Travel and Tourism with International Year Zero - BA (Hons)

  • *International Year Zero (IYZ) is the first stage of a four-year International Incorporated Bachelor's degree. IYZ is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English language, before you continue to year one of your undergraduate degree course.

    IYZ is delivered by London Bedfordshire International College in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire.

How will I be assessed?

We will want to see that you understand the theory and have developed critical thinking skills which help you evaluate the relevance of what you have learned.

To assess this range of integration of theory and skills into sound practice, we use a range of methods. You will be expected to complete two or three assessments per unit, which depends on the number of credits allocated to the unit and length of unit.

You will encounter many different kinds of assessment methods, for example: written exams (e.g. unseen exams, in-class tests, and take-home tests), written assignments (e.g. essays, case studies, literature review), portfolios, reports (e.g. individual or group report, posters, fieldwork, work-based report), individual or group oral presentations and practical skills assessment (e.g. project management).

These will enable you to gain valuable experience to use within the workplace.

  • Formal examination: 20%
  • Coursework, essays: 50%
  • Group work and Presentations: 30%

Entry requirements

  • We will consider you as an individual and take into account all elements of your application, not just your qualifications. We are looking for breadth and depth in your current studies and enthusiasm for the subject you wish to study.

    UCAS has introduced a new tariff for courses starting from September 2017. This means the points you will be asked for are different to previous years but the grades you receive have not changed.

  • At least 80 points with 64 points from 2 A level passes at C or above
  • At least 80 points with 64 from Merit Merit in two BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas or one BTEC Diploma
  • At least 80 points with Merit Merit Pass in the BTEC Extended Diploma
  • A completed Access to Higher Education Diploma
  • Equivalent qualifications such as Irish Leaving Certificate, OCR Nationals, International Baccalaureate and CACHE Level 3 awards.

Facilities

Our flagship £34m Campus Centre is funky and functional. It brings together all our student services, social and learning spaces, and a 240-seat lecture theatre under one roof.

The Campus Centre building is connected to the rest of the University and the first floor acts as a one-stop shop for all students services.

Designed for work as well as play, the Campus Centre incorporates relaxed learning zones with Wi-Fi access.

It also features the Students' Union support services and executive offices alongside places to eat

Accommodation at Luton

Our contemporary en-suite accommodation features 852 fully-furnished flats, just part of our accommodation offering of more than 1,500 study rooms.

The Luton campus is right in the centre of town next to a large shopping mall and within easy walking distance of the student halls, train and bus stations.

Directions to Luton campus

Luton is the largest town in Bedfordshire and is approximately 50km north of London.

It has excellent transport links to the rest of the UK and Europe, and central London is only a 30-minute train journey away.

Luton is has excellent transport links to other cities such as Manchester, Leeds and Milton Keynes. London Luton Airport is located just 2.5km from the Luton campus.

  • Application for most full-time undergraduate and foundation courses is via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

    We expect to receive UCAS applications between 1 September and 15 January for courses starting in the following academic year, but may consider applications received after this date should places be available.
