Maria Beatriz Foire

Tutor in Health and Social Care

I have been teaching a number of workshops on higher education, academic language and research skills at undergraduate level since qualifying with a degree in English Literature in 2017. After completing my Masters of Research on Sufism and flamenco, I developed a keen interest in studying the effects of music production and pedagogies in marginalised communities, in particular among the Roma population in Southern Spain and looking into the use of grass roots flamenco for social integration.

I have carried out extensive research on music for social and psychological well-being and the psycho-social effects of group music-making, particularly among refugee and immigrant communities.

I took up my position as Tutor in Health and Social Care in early 2022 and have since enjoyed adopting a creative and innovative approach to teaching across foundation and undergraduate levels, promoting interdisciplinary approaches in education and intercultural learning in the classroom.
