There are two main strands of research in the School of Applied Social Sciences: Social Work and Social Care Research, and Research with and for Young People.

The research centres are part of the Institute of Applied Social Research (IASR)

Staff working within IASR and the School of Applied Social Sciences maintain regional, national and international consultancy links with governments, public sector organisations, legal practices, research active institutions, and therapeutic communities.
