Senior Lecturer Airline and Airport Management

Peter DuqueminI joined the University of Bedfordshire in January 2019 as a Senior Lecturer in Airline and Airport Management (BSc).

My experience of Further/Higher Education includes four years teaching BTEC/A Level Travel and Tourism courses in Further Education colleges and, for the past ten years, teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Aviation Department at Bucks New University.

Research Interests

  • The potential of the long haul low cost business model
  • The impact of single aisle long range aircraft (both for low cost carriers and full service network carriers)
  • The impact of ground incidents on airline/airports’ operations and costs
  • The effectiveness of the industry’s efforts to ameliorate the impact of doubling in size every fifteen years on carbon (and other) emissions

Previous Roles

Prior to retraining to become a teacher, I started my career as a Graduate Management Trainee with the UK charter airline Dan-Air Services Ltd where I held various roles (including Dispatch at Gatwick Airport; Cargo Sales and finally as Sales Servicing Manager responsible for the delivery of all materials and communications with the travel trade and the company’s sales representatives) as it took advantage of more relaxed UK domestic deregulation to start domestic, and subsequently, European, scheduled services.

I then moved to Ryanair as General Sales Manager (UK) as it was transitioning from a small regional airline to take advantage of the creation of the EU single aviation market which was to lead to London-Dublin becoming the single biggest city-pair in Europe.

I then moved to Jersey to take up the position of European Marketing Director for Jersey Tourism where I was responsible for developing new inbound business to the island from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Austria working with both tour operators and airlines.

My final role within the airline industry was as the UK and Ireland Sales and Marketing Manager for Ghana Airways where I was responsible for developing new business mainly from ex patriot Ghanaians living in the UK but also developing business from UK and Irish based customers wanting to travel to Ghana and other West African countries using Ghana Airways’ regional network from Accra.
