Amanda Willetts

Portfolio Lead/ Principal Lecturer, Allied Health Professions and Midwifery

Amanda Willetts

I joined the University of Bedfordshire in May 2012, following a fulfilling career within the NHS in both midwifery and nursing. Throughout this time I specialised in education for both parents and staff within midwifery and critical care within nursing (including general, paediatric and cardiothoracic ITU).

During completion of my masters’ degree, I developed a further interest in patient safety and the impact of human factors within this field.

I currently lead the Allied Health Professions and Midwifery Portfolio, including ODP, Paramedic Science and  Healthcare Practice programmes. I also teach within all academic years of our BSc (Hons) Midwifery courses.

I feel that this is such an exciting time for students and am proud to be part of a dedicated and supportive team for not only the students’ time spent in clinical training but also continuing throughout their professional careers. I also aim to maintain close links with students both in the classroom and in clinical practice to ensure further support and advice is available.

My own PhD studies are focused around student midwives’ experience of traumatic deliveries, particularly centred around experiences of first year student midwives.
