Carla Ball

Senior Lecturer in Midwifery

Carla Ball

I am a Senior Midwifery Lecturer and Course Co-coordinator for Midwifery 3-year programme at the University of Bedfordshire. My background is clinical midwifery, with a vast experience in many aspects of midwifery care.

I trained in Derby City Hospital through the University of Nottingham in 1994 and took my first job at the Northern General hospital in Sheffield in 1997 where I consolidated my training. In 2000 I took a role in Watford General Hospital where I helped to set up and establish a low risk midwife-led unit, which developed into a very successful birth centre.

Developing my skills at Watford, I became a shift coordinator of the labour ward, caring for many high and low risk clients, supporting students and staff. From here i worked in the community setting which allowed me to provide continuity of care to the clients and allowed me to deliver my passion for normality in being present at many home births.

Due to house move, I worked at Bedford Hospital from 2011 to 2013, in the role of shift coordinator for delivery suite, and cared for high and low risk women and their families.

Entering education was a leap of faith, one that I have enjoyed, and grown over the last few years. I practice link with one of our local trust partners and have forged strong connections between the practice and university to support students and mentors alike.
