Carolyn Rooth

Senior Lecturer in Midwifery

Carolyn Rooth

The focus of my career has been women’s health. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1983 and as a Registered Midwife in 1989. Predominately, I have worked in the NHS where I have gained experience of working in all of the clinical practice environments of midwifery and women’s health in clinical, managerial and educational roles.

Prior to joining the University of Bedfordshire in March 2018, I was employed in a senior position for almost six years as a Consultant Midwife at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This diverse and challenging role focuses uniquely in leadership, clinical practice, education, research and improving services for women and their families at local, regional and national levels. I have particular interests in the experiences of women with complex needs, the experience of newly qualified midwives and the complexities of the midwife client relationship

Undertaking personal study throughout my career has consistently enhanced my personal growth and development and has also been a catalyst for previous periods of employment in the education sector both at the University of Bedfordshire and at Kings College London. I believe passionately in education at all levels as a key to facilitating evidence based care and to improving both the experience of healthcare professionals, women and their families. I feel that everyone has the potential to fulfill their unique potential given the opportunity to do so and
