Kelly Alexander

Senior Lecturer

Kelly Alexander I joined the University in May 2010 having worked for six years as a social worker in forensic mental health services and as an Approved Mental Health Professional for the local authority.

I developed a specialist interest in working with female mentally disordered offenders and was project manager for the women’s service within the service in which I was located.

Prior to this, I gained 10 years' experience working in the voluntary sector in the UK and not for profit sector in the USA, primarily with women and offenders.


  • Master in Social Work from the University of Southern Indiana, USA
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from City University, London
  • BA (Hons) History with English from Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education

Teaching Role

  • My teaching interests are primarily linked to the field of mental health and I have a specific responsibility BSc and MSc units in this field and for teaching mental health components within other unit. 
  • I also have teaching responsibility for developing academic and professional skills at BSc Level and theory/practice skills at MSc level.

Research Interests

I have a research interest in the areas of women offenders, mental illness, risk assessment and identity.
