Dr Kwanele Shishane
Senior Lecturer in Science
Dr Kwanele Shishane is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has been teaching in different educational settings and developed a keen interest in research ethics and mental health research. She has received different fellowships and awards, including the Excellence in scholarship and doctoral research award from Clark Atlanta University, where she did her US Fulbright fellowship as a visiting researcher.
She has teaching experience in Introduction to Professional Social Work Practice, Social Work Theory and Field Practice, Social Policy, Research Methods, Applied Research for Health Social Care, and Social Work with Adults. She teaches Applied Literature Review, Critical Issues in Inter-Professional and Specialist Practice and Research Informed Child Care. She has research supervision experience at the honours, Masters and PhD levels.
Dr Shishane embraces and values equality, diversity and inclusion. Her teaching is student-centred and developmental, incorporating divergent and innovative ways of teaching and learning. Dr Shishane does not see students as passive knowledge receivers but as co-producers of knowledge who have the potential to shape the future of social science research and social work practice.
