Stuart Wilson

Senior Lecturer in Sport Development and Management

Stuart WilsonI have been employed in the sport and physical activity industry since 1999, predominately in a Sports Development role. Most recently, I was a Relationship Manager within SkillsActive,  a national partners of Sport England, and worked with organisations such as National Governing Bodies of Sport, County Sports Partnerships and Leisure Operators to create programmes that supported their workforce and business development.

Alongside this, I have been teaching in Higher Education since 2003. I have led Sports Development and Management units and take a keen interest in ensuring that my teaching relates to current and future industry based practice. I obtained a BSc from Sheffield Hallam in 1999, a PGCE in Post-16 Education from Anglia Ruskin University in 2002 and a MA from De Montfort University in 2009.

I took up my position as a Senior Lecturer in Sports Development Management at the University in September 2015. I aim to adopt a creative and innovative approach to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and draw upon industry based activity when developing programmes.

I believe that academic research and industry practice should have greater integration. Industry should draw upon academic research in order to inform future practice. Academic research should be more relevant in order to support and inform industry practice. Therefore, developing academic and industry partnerships are a key element of my work at the University.
