Chloe Rumsey, Graduate
BSc Sport and Exercise Science, 2008-2011

I studied many subjects throughout my degree which I became passionate about, including units such as Physical Activity and Health and Anatomy and Physiology. This gave me a solid base to want to explore these subjects further and I started studying a part time MSc Professional Science in 2015 focusing on Research in Mental Health and Medicine after I graduated.

Through the Sport Science and Physical Activity (SSPA) newsletter that is sent out to all students, I became aware of a graduate job opportunity in the SportBeds department at the University. This newsletter was compiled of opportunities that the University itself, and its external partners offer was pivotal in allowing me to apply. I was offered the job within the department in 2015 and have worked here since; helping students and gym members with their Sport and Fitness needs and queries.

This job has allowed me to gain fully funded fitness, Rugby Levels 1-2, health and safety and first aid qualifications which I would never have gained if I hadn’t been given the opportunity by the SSPA staff in the newsletter. Having to research and complete many different assignments. I am able to now manage my schedule to work full time and study part time to a very high standard; having completed 2/3rds of my Master’s degree at a Distinction so far.

I am currently applying for jobs to further my career with the NHS and have two interviews in the near future thanks to the strength of my CV and qualifications gained here through the University.

The confidence and self-belief I gained from presentations and working with my tutors within my final year dissertation units has allowed me to go on to take part in challenges for charities such as Cancer Research – Marathon Hike and Macmillan Cancer Support’s London Triathlon.

The abilities I have progressed and now specialised and the skills I gained; along with my experiences I had at the University of Bedfordshire were invaluable. It has set me up faultlessly to further my career in Science and be confident in my hobbies and abilities going forward.
