Senior Lecturer in Education Studies and Course Coordinator for BA Applied Education Studies

Karen WicksI began my teaching career in 1985 as a class teacher at a large primary school in Luton and spent one year of my time at the school teaching in the United States on the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Programme.

In 1992 I became Head of Mathematics at a middle school in Bedfordshire and then joined Hertfordshire Local Authority as a Numeracy Senior Strategy Consultant (mathematics) in 1999.

I was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the University in 2006 and now share the Course Coordinator role for the BA (Hons) Applied Education Studies course.

My teaching focuses on Mathematics Education, Mathematical Problem Solving, Research Methods and research project supervision.

I am particularly interested in supporting adults in overcoming anxieties in learning mathematics and have recently completed research in this area.
