Sophy Bassett-Dubsky

Senior Lecturer, Course Coordinator for BA (Hons)/MPhysEd Physical Education (Secondary) (with QTS) in Teacher Education

Sophy Bassett Dubsky

I achieved my lifelong ambition to become a teacher of Physical Education when I graduated from Chelsea School of Human Movement, Eastbourne, with a BEd (Hons) degree in Physical Education and Geography (second subject).

I have significant experience of teaching and leading Physical Education in secondary schools and prior to joining the University, coordinated the Physical Education provision for a SCITT scheme and mentored student teachers from the University.

I have a passion for supporting and developing trainee teachers and as the interim Course Coordinator, have many opportunities to ensure their learning and progression is optimal. I enjoy meeting potential trainees in my role as Course Coordinator, listening to the aspirations and intentions of the next generation of teachers.

As the Placement Coordinator, I have the privilege to work with the Education Services Team, partnerships schools and the trainees and their mentors in school based contexts. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with all involved in this vital aspect of the degree is interesting and rewarding, particularly as many of our PE mentors are Graduates from the course.

I am physically active, playing Tennis for both County and Club, as well as cycling and running for charities and fitness.
