Postgraduate: Distance learning

Distance learning is where lecturers and students communicate online rather than face-to-face. The University will agree a timescale of study and deadlines for submitting coursework with you. You can keep in regular contact with your personal tutor for support via video call, email or by phone.

Advantages of distance learning

  • Flexible study so you can work at your own pace
  • You can fit your studies in and around your work and other commitments
  • Courses are focused on you and your needs
  • Develop your career without having to leave your current employment
  • Access to our many online resources during your studies

You will have lots of support from the University staff but if you choose to study by distance learning you should be:

  • self motivated - You will not be based on campus and so you will need to be a self starter to keep on target with your coursework
  • dedicated - You will need discipline as the course can sometimes last twice as long as a full-time course. It can also be a challenge to undertake hours of study after a day at work
  • organised - You will need to have good time management skills and be able to multi-task in order to ensure that you can balance your studies with your other commitments
