Postgraduate: Part-time study

Part-time postgraduate courses usually take two academic years to complete, although some courses offer more flexibility and can be completed over three to five years.

A typical course would require you to take one or two units per term, with class sessions taking place during evenings, weekends and some week days.

Part-time courses tend to be most popular with UK and EU students, as they have fewer limitations on the type of work, or the hours of work that they can undertake during their studies. Part-time courses are also most popular with professionals who are undertaking a course for career development - whereby they can complete a postgraduate course whilst continuing with their current employment.

Advantages of part-time study

  • You can continue to work while you study
  • You can balance your studies with other commitments
  • Your employer may contribute to some of your tuition fees
  • Progress in your current job
